We hope that you have all been able to enjoy some rest and relaxation over these too-short summer months. We are beyond excited to be gearing up to welcome our students back beginning next Tuesday!
With record-breaking achievement gains being made and expanded Career and Technical Education and Advanced Placement opportunities available at WHS, new principal leadership at both WMS and Springbrook Elementary, and a bright and beautiful State Street School opening, SY 26-27 promises to be another exciting and productive year.
Please continue to keep an eye out for announcements and information from your child’s principal and/or teachers for the latest on everything you’ll need to know about transportation, arrival and dismissal procedures, behavioral and academic expectations and more. And please do not hesitate to reach out to our team with any questions that may remain.
Please also be reminded that in accordance with Rhode Island General Law, WPS has a new policy taking effect with respect to electronic communication devices. All smart phones, smart watches, air pods (or similar) are to be off and away for the entirety of the school day. We hope parents will join us as we work to redirect our students away from social media distraction and back toward more authentic socialization and renewed focus on learning and growing together in real life.
As many are aware, I am retiring at the end of next week. The Central Administration team and the School Committee are currently working together to plan next steps for identifying and hiring the district’s next superintendent. Since 2017, it has been my honor and privilege to serve this community and I look forward to watching WPS continue to grow and thrive; albeit, from a different perspective.

Springbrook Elementary School: 3:30pm
Dunn's Corner Elementary School: 5:30pm
The Town of Westerly will celebrate the completion of additions and renovations to the Dunn's Corner and Springbrook Elementary Schools with ribbon cutting ceremonies to be held on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 3:30 p.m. on the grounds of Springbrook School and at 5:30 p.m. on the grounds of Dunn's Corner Elementary School.
The project gives both schools and interior refresh with new project labs to promote collaborative learning and STEAM subjects, playground improvements, updated finishes and paint, and new fire protection systems. Dunn's Corner Elementary School received an addition for a new cafeteria and kitchen as well as improved site circulation for parent and bus drop-off locations. Additions at Springbrook Elementary School provide and expanded media center and small group learning spaces adjacent to the classroom wing.
