The Town of Westerly will celebrate the completion of additions and renovations to the Dunn's Corner and Springbrook Elementary Schools with ribbon cutting ceremonies to be held on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 3:30 p.m. on the grounds of Springbrook School and at 5:30 p.m. on the grounds of Dunn's Corner Elementary School.

The project gives both schools and interior refresh with new project labs to promote collaborative learning and STEAM subjects, playground improvements, updated finishes and paint, and new fire protection systems.  Dunn's Corner Elementary School received an addition for a new cafeteria and kitchen as well as improved site circulation for parent and bus drop-off locations. Additions at Springbrook Elementary School provide and expanded media center and small group learning spaces adjacent to the classroom wing.

Welcome to the 2025–2026 School Year at Dunn’s Corners Elementary!
Dear Students and Families,

It is my absolute pleasure to welcome you to a new school year at Dunn’s Corners Elementary School. Whether you are a returning member of our community or joining us for the first time, we are thrilled to have you as part of our school family.

My name is Mr. Giuseppe Gencarelli, also known as Mr. G, and sometimes even DJ Jazzy G on special occasions. I am honored to begin this journey with you as the new principal of Dunn’s Corners. I am also excited to introduce our newest team member, Hope, our very own compassion dog, who is already eager to meet all of you.

This summer has been a season of transformation at Dunn’s Corners. We have made exciting improvements to our school, including a stunning new cafeteria and kitchen, refreshed classrooms, an upgraded hallway, and enhancements to our outdoor learning spaces. The road has been repaved to improve traffic flow, the gym floor is getting a fresh coat of paint with new lines, and the playground will be ready soon for fun.

We are eager to welcome our students in grades 1–4 back to school on Tuesday, September 2nd! Our brand-new kindergarteners will join us for their first day on Monday, September 8. We’ll also be celebrating all the exciting updates to our school during our Open House and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony on Thursday, October 16 at 6:00 p.m. Be sure to mark your calendars!

At Dunn’s Corners, we live by our Three B’s: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. These values guide everything we do and help create a strong, supportive community where every student can succeed. Our goal is to help each student develop academically, socially, and emotionally while cultivating a love for learning.

This year, we are especially excited to offer even more hands-on, meaningful learning through our new project room and outdoor classroom. Our dedicated teachers and staff are working hard to prepare engaging, welcoming spaces where students are encouraged to think critically, ask questions, and explore creatively.

We also believe that strong partnerships with families make a big difference. Our amazing PTO has an exciting year of events ahead, starting with the PTO Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, August 26 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Westerly Middle School (due to construction). We hope to see you there.

At Dunn’s Corners Elementary, every student counts. We believe in each child’s potential and are here to help every learner shine. Let us work together to make this school year one to remember; one that is filled with learning, growth, and joyful moments.
